You may have noticed a gray bar that appears at the top of your pages when logged into your WordPress.com account. The Admin Bar is an easy-to-access toolbar with shortcuts to many of the WordPress features you already know and love.

Posts are what make your blog a blog — they’re servings of content that are listed in reverse chronological order on your blog’s front page. Posts are always associated with a date, which is included in the URL. Sometimes, posts are confused with pages. See Post vs. Page for an explanation of the differences.

Pages are static. They are a good way to publish information that doesn’t change much, like an About page. Pages appear in the Pages widget and in tabs/links across the top of some themes. Pages are not associated with a date/time like posts, nor can you tag or categorize a page.

By clicking Add New on the Media menu you can upload images, audio files, videos and other files to your Media Library without having to start a new post.

You can manage a set of links, or a blogroll, using the Links menu in your WordPress.com blog. These links will show up on your blog if you have added the Links Widget from the Appearance -> Widgets page.

The following process describes inserting an image which already exists on another web site or domain. This method will not upload the document/file to your blog’s Media Library. Because it is hosted elsewhere, if the file is removed from its location, the image will no longer work on your blog.
